The Have Hope Initiative was born of the heartache in watching our community suffer countless losses and immeasurable pain due to the growing epidemic of substance abuse. Abuse affects not only the addict but their families and friends as well. Too many times the people affected are left feeling helpless and alone, ashamed to reach out for help fearing the stigma associated with substance abuse. In addition, abuse is becoming more and more ‘normalized’ in our communities for lack of knowledge of the support options available.
The purpose of the Have Hope Initiative is to educate and support our communities in standing united against substance abuse. Our mission is to help addicts along with their families and friends in gaining knowledge, strength and support from the networks we can create as a community.
We have appointed an Executive Committee and are currently developing Volunteer Sub-Committees. We have obtained an EIN and have begun the process of filing for Non-Profit status. Our main focus at this point is to raise awareness in the community, educate our members to the resources available and raise money that will assist in reaching our short and long term goals.
We look forward to creating Peer Education programs in local schools, forming relationships with community resource and support programs, developing partnerships with area transportation services to provide rides to appointments and helping to connect people in need with the appropriate resources. Our long term goal is to open Hope Haven, a residential location that will offer a safe, supportive and caring environment to those that are committed to leading healthier lives.
We are partnering with local businesses in a Zero Tolerance Initiative. Those who join will display a window decal alerting the community to their pledge, stating that those businesses have Zero Tolerance for drug use and sales in and around their establishments.
